Do you love Iowa History? Than the State Historical Society of Iowa is the place to go!

A few weeks ago the Blue Ribbon Foundation took an office trip to the museum to see it for ourselves.  Located at 600 East Locust in Downtown Des Moines, the Society has so many things to see and learn about. The best part is that they have a huge section of Iowa State Fair photos dating back to the early 1900’s.
The other interns and I loved looking through the old photos with our white gloves and seeing how things used to be. Many of the buildings that are still used today are in the antique photos and being able to make the connections on where the photo was taken based off the buildings was something that we all enjoyed.  Some of my favorite photos included the old carnival rides, a horse show that was taking place in the Grandstand, and a steer show with President Eisenhower.

Next time you’re in Des Moines make sure to stop by the Society and find your favorite picture. You never know what you might find!
