Swine Barn

Built in 1907, the Swine Barn has seen many Iowa State Fairs, and with your help, it will see many more. The 185,000-square foot building is known for its arched brick entries and open, sprawling architecture. The barn houses 808 swine pens with seating for 800 people, spanning over more than four acres. The structure has naturally deteriorated over time, and a much deserved facelift finally began on 2005.

Renovations in 2005 and 2006 included tuck-pointing and masonry work on the brick exterior, a new roof and the addition of new stalls. Though these immediate repairs have been met, the barn is still in need of further restoration. Additional updates needed for this facility include the construction of handicap accessible restroom facilities, replacing the deteriorated concrete floors, and new plumbing, lighting and electrical systems.
