An exciting and inclusive “Variety Star Playground” is coming to the Iowa State Fairgrounds in 2025! The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation is proud to announce a partnership with Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa to bring this special addition to life.
In keeping with the Iowa State Fair’s mission to offer something for everyone, the new playground will transform the current Fun Forest play area into a space that is accessible for all. This updated play area will allow children and adults of all abilities to play side by side, fostering connection and joy in an inclusive environment.
During the Fair, the Fun Forest has long been a haven where parents relax as kids explore beyond the stroller. Now, the playground will also become a year-round destination for families, especially those in the Des Moines east side community.
With an agricultural theme featuring farm animals, the playground will be designed to spark creativity and outdoor play. It will include accessible ramps, a smooth, easy-to-navigate surface, and play elements that encourage imagination, physical activity, and friendships for children of all abilities.
To make this vision a reality, we aim to raise $300,000 of the $700,000 project cost, with Variety raising the remaining funds. Your support will help create a playground where everyone can play. Donate online today to make an impact!
