Hi Fairgoers,
My name is Maya Bruening, and I will be spending my summer with the Blue-Ribbon Foundation as their Sponsor Relations Intern. I am currently a Sophomore at Iowa State studying agriculture communications. I grew up in Charles City, Iowa on my family's farm where we have a row crop operation along with cattle and goats. I enjoy being outside and doing anything to help on the farm! I grew up immersed in 4-H and FFA and found a true passion for advocating for agriculture through those organizations, which ultimately led me to choosing my major in agriculture communications.
Growing up in Floyd County I was very involved with my fair as I showed cattle, goats, and photography, and was also Floyd County Fair Queen Runner Up. My involvement didn't stop there, during my senior year of high school I interned with the Floyd County Extension and Outreach office where I got to help run day camps throughout the fair and really get a taste of what the fair looks like behind the scenes. I loved getting to see that aspect of the fair that not everyone gets to experience at the county level, so as you can imagine I am looking forward to seeing the behind the scenes on the State Fair level!
I am excited to make connections with new people and to use my skills and knowledge to benefit the State Fair. I look forward to being able to advocate for agriculture through the Iowa State Fair, because as we know nothing compares!
