The Iowa State Fair is a combination of thousands of ingredients mixed together to make a wonderful recipe we all enjoy! The same can be said for the Blue Ribbon Foundation’s Corndog Kickoff scheduled for Saturday, July 12. This year’s theme is “Stir It Up.” The auction, being a critical ingredient of the Corndog Kickoff, requires a lot of help recruiting donations for packages.
An introductory Corndog Kickoff planning meeting is set for Wednesday, March 12 at 5:30 PM at the Blue Ribbon Foundation office in the Earth Home on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Robin Taylor, Blue Ribbon Foundation Assistant Director, will explain what the auction committee does and provide information on gathering items to include in packages. There will be two additional meetings, one in April and May.
While it’s nice to have the group together, we understand schedules don’t always allow, so the meetings are not mandatory; we just ask that you keep in touch via email.
Creating the silent and live auction is made easier with many cooks in the kitchen, as everyone has a small part and together it makes a big impact. Committee members are asked to solicit a minimum of 5 items (each with an individual value of $25 or more) and help during one of the set-up sessions during the week of the event.
If you love the Fair and strike up a conversation with someone who also likes it, asking for a donation is pretty easy. Committee members are given donation forms and overview information to provide to potential donors in both digital and paper formats. In addition to helping make the Corndog Kickoff a success, each committee member receives two tickets to attend the event and a t-shirt.
Please consider attending the first meeting as it will be an overview of what is involved. Feel free to listen in and then decide if you are comfortable volunteering. Please feel free to also share this information with friends or other Iowa State Fair enthusiasts.
