I've Got My List

Today marks 25 days left until the 20th Annual Corndog Kickoff Benefit Auction and Fair Food Grazing Party! Everyone here at the Blue Ribbon Foundation has been busy working on different aspects of the event to make it all come together. I have been busy over the last week organizing the auction items into packages. Along with that, I have been busy figuring out which items and donations we have to pick up.

Obsessively, Relentlessly at Your Service!

With World Pork Expo in full swing, the fairgrounds have been a bit crazy. Coming from a livestock background, events like this get me fired up. I love seeing people from all over the world come to the east side of Des Moines to learn and partake in all the activities the World Pork Expo has to offer. With a large event like this and the State Fair of course, the Fairgrounds use an unbelievable amount of energy.

Golfing for Good

This past weekend, Central Iowa was full of great things to fill up the weekend and to enjoy the beautiful weather. As the Downtown Farmers’ Market is in full swing, a successful Dam to Dam made possible by thousands of runners and volunteers concluded, and a record attendance at the Principal Charity Classic broken, it was great to see the support by all Iowans.

How Many Days Left?

Since I started as an intern here at the Blue Ribbon Foundation in mid-January, I have spent most of my lunch breaks at the nearby Subway. I have recently started bringing in my lunch, but when I frequented the same Subway, the employees would occasionally ask me how many days left until the 2016 Iowa State Fair and I would always answer, too many! When I did not go to Subway for my lunch today, I was reminded that we only have 79 days left!

ABC's to the Corndog Kickoff Part 2

Last week, I highlighted twelve items that have been donated to the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation’s Corndog Kickoff and Fair Food Grazing Party. This week, I will finish out my ABC’s to the Corndog Kickoff. With the help of local businesses, surrounding companies, and even other state fairs, we have some fantastic items to auction off this year! We are always looking for that unique piece that would stand out in our auction.

Sunny Days on the Horizon

Highs in the low 70’s and a beautiful forecast for the rest of the week, the Masters in Augusta, Georgia has me looking forward to warmer weather and more sunny days here in Iowa.  I am also reminded of the beautiful sunny days of the golf season as more and more golf courses send in donations for the Corndog Kickoff. Along with many golf courses sending in donations, we have some great handmade works of art and some good promotion of the featured auction items for this year’s live auction happening this week.

Fireworks!

Hi y’all! With all the excitement and energy around the office, you would think someone has been shooting off fireworks for the Fourth of July. Everyone has been busy getting ready for 2015 Corndog Kickoff, which is NEXT WEEK (Saturday, July 11 to be exact)! It’s crazy how fast it’s gotten here. Tickets are still on sale by the way. Just call the office at (515) 262- 3111 ext. 371 to order yours! Or stop by that night and purchase them. Either way we would love to see you there!

Corndog Kickoff Volunteers

The time has come to turn in those volunteer forms for the 18th Annual Corndog Kickoff! Don’t miss your opportunity to join us in “Rock’n Round the Grounds!” and volunteer at one of Iowa’s most talked about events.

The Corndog Kickoff will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the William C. Knapp Varied Industries Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Your volunteer efforts can help the Blue Ribbon Foundation continue renovating and preserving the Iowa State Fairgrounds, just like that “old time rock and roll.”
