Thankful

Many have called the Iowa State Fair a giant family reunion! Its 11 days in August where you spend time with family and friends enjoying everything that makes Iowa great. What if the entire “State Fair Family” gathered on the Fairgrounds this Thursday to celebrate Thanksgiving?

We could serve a meal with giant turkey legs, corn in a cup and pie on a stick. To me, a hot beef sundae made with turkey sounds delicious! We wouldn’t watch football or the Macy’s parade – we could watch our favorite livestock show, contest or concert.

This Thanksgiving, the Blue Ribbon Foundation has many reasons to give thanks! July and August are so incredibly busy that it is easy to forget to stop and thank the people around us. There are so many people that contribute to making the Foundation a success.

State Fair Staff: The Foundation only has 4 full time staff members but all of the State Fair employees help our organization run smoothly. The 60+ staff members are always willing to step up and assist the Foundation with whatever is needed.

Interns: The Blue Ribbon Foundation’s staff grows every summer with the addition of interns. These college students go above and beyond to help accomplish our goals. Their hard work does not go unnoticed and they are each deserving of a huge thank you!  I’m looking forward to interviewing the 2016 applicants. (Just a reminder, the deadline to apply is December 31.)

Volunteers: In a hectic world, giving your time is sometimes the most valuable thing you can offer. With the Iowa Beef Expo, Corndog Kickoff, Fairgrounds 5K, and Iowa State Fair there are plenty of events where the Foundation relies on volunteers. Our volunteers are always willing to tackle any project with a smile on their face. These volunteers keep coming back year after year and we are continually thankful for each of them.

Donors: From large to small, all donations are important to the Foundation. Each donor has a reason for giving to the Blue Ribbon Foundation that is unique and special to them. We are honored that they choose to support our mission of raising funds to help preserve and improve the historic Iowa State Fairgrounds.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation thanks you for your support over the last 20 years. This Thursday, enjoy time with your family and friends. Just keep in mind the best family gathering is only 260 days away.
