Sneak a Peek at the Iowa State Fair Sculptures

I’ve never considered myself much of an artist. Sure, I can doodle a pretty good sketch comparable to a ten-year-old’s, but despite my amateur painting skills, I’ve taken the opportunity to decorate a few of the many sculptures that enhance our beautiful Iowa State Fair. In 2011, I sought out every single one of the Butter Cow sculptures that scattered the Fairgrounds and couldn’t resist the chance to participate in the fun last year, and of course, continued the tradition this year. This year, you can find more concrete sculptures around the Fair that feature the shape of the state of Iowa.

It takes the creative efforts of many other artists, with much more talent than me, around Iowa to create the unique sculptures. Over the past two days, several of the sculptures for this year have rolled onto the Iowa State Fairgrounds. I took a short trip over to the Ice & Feed Building to drop off my sculptures and sneak a peek at some of the others that had already arrived. I was amazed by the colorful sculptures lined up and ready to go on display, and I’m sure you will to!

When you arrive at the Iowa State Fairgrounds this year, challenge your friends and family to a scavenger hunt. See who can find all of the sculptures first or pick out your favorite one! There is sure to be one that you will enjoy.

Let the countdown begin—only 12 days, 8 hours, and 15 minutes left until the 2014 Iowa State Fair. I can’t wait to see you there!

Many of the cement sculptures that are to be displayed at this year's Iowa State Fair have begun to arrive at the Fairgrounds.

Catch two of the sculptures I created around (as seen with the "selfie").

Just one of the "Amazingly Amusing" things at the Iowa State Fair--the unique cement sculptures!
